The city of Tempe continues preparations today for the storm expected to hit the Valley this afternoon (Thursday) and offers a number of resources and tips for community members.
Tips for staying safe:
* Be prepared for heavy rains/winds by having a 72 hour supply of food, water and basic needs.
* Take extra caution on the roads and drive slowly.
* Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary during heavy rains or high winds.
* Do not drive in flooded areas.
* Secure lawn equipment and patio furniture.
* Watch local weather reports.
* Keep pets inside.
* Sand is available first-come, first-served to the public at Tempe’s Field Operations Facility, 55. S. Priest Drive, Tempe (enter the first driveway north of Rio Salado Parkway) and at Benedict Athletic Fields, 490 W. Guadalupe Road, Tempe (enter the first driveway west of Kyrene Road) Residents must bring their own bags (i.e., plastic grocery bags) and shovels.
